Having camped overnight at Yosemite Lakes and gotten going early, we arrived at Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley a little after 8 a.m. Our plan was to hike the Mist Trail up to Vernal Fall. This is an easy 3 mile round trip hike with 1,000 feet of elevation gain.
The pictures really tell the story.
P.S. one new thing – back at the Happy Isles parking lot, after the hike, Carol and I were getting some refreshments and suddenly Carol quietly says “There’s a bear”. It was walking along checking out the bear boxes, I suppose to find the ones someone had left open. Then the bear came out in the open and someone shouted at just below foghorn level “Look, a bear!” and the poor thing (it was kind of little and scruffy looking) took off and Carol only got a picture of it’s rear receding in the distance. It was the first time I’d actually seen a bear in Yosemite.
