Blog vs Website

A friend called me on the whole 1980’s, 1990’s, 21st century thing, pointing out how older is not necessarily worse. Fair enough.

The real reasons for going blog are several:

  1. First was that I downloaded Firefox 3 (which you should do too for security’s sake; the better performance is icing) and it does not render my website, built with FrontPage 2003, correctly. Ouch. This thanks to Microsoft having proprietary links to IE hooks and so forth. Wouldn’t it be nice if MS spent the time on fixing bugs and security instead. Anyway…
  2. Updating the website was a chore compared to the blog. First I needed a PC with my entire website on it and a copy of frontpage. Then there’s architecting the flow, setting up the links to work correctly, blah blah blah, discovering that frontpage leaves old crap on the website that I have to remove manually; I’m stopping now.
  3. The blog has search, categories and tags and can be updated from any PC or Mac with a browser. I can easily insert slide shows, videos – links are the same as the website. Done deal.
