Today I made this movie from video we shot the previous day.

At the Marine Reserve, Barbara’s Fishtrap
Click me for today’s pictures…
We all piled into the car with towels, chairs, food and a bunch of beach toys our nice neighbor lady loaned us (she has grandkids…) and head for the Half Moon Bay area. We wound up at the James V Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, where we learned about the no-bucket rule at the reserve. It makes it too tempting to gather plants and animals, the ranger told us. Goofing, Climbing Gym, We Got Apricots
This morning we spent some time goofing in the garage on my Indo Board which is basically a piece of plywood on a roller that we use to improve our balance.
Then we piled into the car and went to the climbing gym for several hours.
When we got home, Continue reading Post ID 52

Woodworking, Gymnastics, you-pick-em berries
After yesterday’s big day I couldn’t get anyone (except Jordan, of course, who doesn’t have any intermediate speeds) interested in going climbing or something today – so we mostly stuck around home.
After breakfast, we went out in the garage for a good workout, lifting weights and so forth. After that, Jordan and I did a little project to go in the camper. Continue reading Post ID 52

Monterey Bay Aquarium, Lover’s Point, Asilomar State Beach
Big day today – we got up and out of the house by 8:40 which didn’t sound too hard to me until I had a 7-yo involved. We were on our way to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey and wanted to be sure to get there in time for the sea otter feeding. We made it, and in addition to feeding they were working on training the sea otters basically for stimulation for them (the otters, not the trainers). I guess the otters can actually get sick without the intellectual stimulation. Continue reading Post ID 52

San Francisco, GG Bridge and Tiburon
Tuesday morning we met Dena and Jordan at their hotel. I had told Dena to bring whatever she needed. I didn’t realize they made suitcases that big. We had a few moments in the parking lot getting everything in our car.
We went on to San Francisco, Continue reading Post ID 52

Panorama of icy lake in Bishop Pass
On the way in to Bishop Pass on our last outing, we came upon a lake that was frozen over except around the edges. It was so beautiful I hated to leave.
I spent a few hours stitching this picture together from 7 individual pictures. Since I did not control the exposure setting when I took the pictures, it was a lot more work than it should have been.
If you’re thinking of downloading it, it’s stored in it’s full 12.4MB glory…

Ouch!
Turns out Nadine badly sprained her wrist on a talus slope and is in a brace for 3-4 weeks. Hope she heals fast.
That’s two talus accidents I’ve been around for in the last few years.
I’ll be spending more time on how to move on high angle talus (before encountering the high angle talus) on future trips with the inexperienced…

Jim and Nadine’s Sierra Advenchah
Friends Jim and Nadine flew into town from Massachusetts a week ago last Friday night with the intention of bagging a big Sierra peak as well as visiting Yosemite NP and seeing the sights. We spent Friday night catching up and having a few be-ahs. If you don’t know what a be-ah is, then know Jim and Nadine are from near Bahston and it’ll become clearer…
First on the advenchah agenda was bagging a big Sierra peak, which, since all of us live about at sea level, was more likely if we got some high-altitude hikes under our belt. Continue reading Post ID 52

Quick trip to Bodega Bay area
Monday June 2 – Our plan is to go on a short trip, camp, and try out the setup we’ve created in our new camper – a shakedown cruise, if you will. The usual drill – food, water, electronics, clothing (unlike our recent trip to Zion NP, we took our warm clothes which turned out to be a good thing), sleeping bags, etc.
We always forget something – this time it was peanut butter – but we did remember the coffee! Continue reading Post ID 52
